Watsu (Water Shiatsu) :
Freeing the Body in Water
|
 |
Sample some H2Ohhhhhh this year with a relaxing treatment combining Zen Shiatsu with Aquatic Therapy. Imagine being gently stretched while floating continuously supported in 96-degree water. You put on a bathing suit, listen to a few instructions and then are gently lifted off your feet. The benefit? The support of the warm water, the low gravity and the security of being held all work together, allowing for deep relaxation and healing. As you relax and renew, you can experience a profound release from tensions and pain.Take the stress out with Watsu.
What is Watsu?
Developed by combining Zen Shiatsu with Aquatic Therapy, Watsu is an effective approach to muscle re-education involving gentle mobilization of joints and soft tissue. The receiver of a Watsu session is continuously supported while being floated and gently stretched in 95 degree water. The warm water and the low gravity, combined with the security of being held, allow for deep relaxation and release to occur.
The secret to Watsu is water: water heated to precisely the same temperature as your skin. In this water, gravity and weight become irrelevant.
Spiritual renewal
As your body lets go so does your mind. For many people it’s an opportunity to see themselves with a new, clearer perspective. Receiving a Watsu session enables you to forget about all the external demands of everyday life and focus on who you are inside. Once the mind is free to quiet itself into what many describe as a womb-like feeling of peace and being nurtured, the spirit can come shining through.
Imagine. No sounds but the water. No time but the present. No sensation but a tensionless, supportive ease that allows your body to relax deeper, deeper and deeper.
The physical and stress-reducing effects of Watsu are deep, lasting and profound. And that is why this unique form of massage is now being requested and offered in spas, health clubs, hospitals and physical therapy facilities around the world.
The Ancient Egyptians once said, “Water is given the soul as compensation for taking on a bodily form”.
How does it happen?
You put on a bathing suit, receive a few instructions and are gently lifted off your feet and supported floating on your back. The Watsu therapist uses the resistance of the water to stretch, and massage your tissues with precision, subtlety, and virtually no effort. Supported in warmth and safety, what you notice is not the work being done, but the results: a profound physical release, and relief from tensions and pain.
Warm water, skilled touch and a connection from the heart.
